The 14th edition of the Windsor International Film Festival kicked off opening night at the Chrysler Theatre on Monday with Vincent Georgie on hand to welcome independent filmmakers and movie goers at the St. Clair College Centre for the Arts.

Georgie was joined by former City or Windsor councilor Bill Marra, University of Windsor Alumni Association Board of Directors president Jean Wright, Ryan Donally (WIFF Vice-Chair), Katharen Bortolin (WIFF board member), Sahar Dawi (WIFF Sponsorship Coordinator) and Mori McIntosh (WIFF Board Member and one of the festivals original volunteers).

The opening film, independent drama Capernaum, drew a large crowd for its screening. The movie brings attention to the plight of children in Beirut’s slums and the Kafka-esque bind of people without ID cards. While this is unquestionably an issue film, it tackles its subject with intelligence and heart.

The Windsor International Film Festival continues until November 4 with screenings at three locations throughout the city. For schedules visit windsorfilmfestival.com.
