(CNN) — Actress Charlpie Deen, who had just started playing the lead role in the Palme d’Or-winning film “Triangle of Sadness,” has passed away, her rep confirmed to CNN. I am 32 years old.
A representative confirmed that Dean died of a sudden and unexpected illness on Monday, but did not elaborate.
Dean, sometimes known as Charlby Dean Creek, is from South Africa and started her career as a model.
Her first film was the 2010 comedy “Spud” starring Troye Sivan and John Cleese.
She has also appeared in other film roles, as well as a recurring role as Syonide on the CW series “Black Lightning”.
Dean’s role in “Triangle of Sadness” is pivotal, especially after the film’s well-received reception at Cannes. In the film, Dean plays Patty, one half of a celebrity couple who shack up on a luxury cruise.
Following her win at the film festival, Dean took to Instagram, writing, “Congratulations we made the family!” And said to director Ruben Östlund: “You are the best, and I am forever grateful that you believed in me as part of your genius”.
Dean is engaged to model Luke Volker, according to posts on her Instagram accounts.
