The first surprise came early draft week.
With three days left until the NFL Draft 2022 officially kicks off in Vegas, there are new favorites to move first overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars – Georgia defensive lineman Travon Walker.
As of Monday morning, Walker was the -150 to be the first pick in the Thursday draft on DraftKings sports site, surpassing former favorite, Michigan rim racer Aidan Hutchinson.
Reports from Jacksonville as recently as last week indicated that The team is still hesitant Who would they choose with the first choice? However, many insiders, including The Athletic’s Lance Zierlein and NFL Media’s Peter Schrager, have predicted Walker to Jags as number one, citing General Manager Trent Baalke’s fondness for players with elite physical qualities.
Walker certainly fits this category. At 6-foot-5 and 272 pounds, Walker ran a 40-yard dash that lasted 4.51 seconds and appeared in all other measurable drills in the combine.
However, his production lags far behind other impulses in the draft. He only had six sacks in 2021, his only season as a full-time player (appearing in a total of 29 games over three seasons). Meanwhile, Hutchinson had 14 sacks last season for the Wolverines.

In the Monday edition of Football morning in America columnPeter King wrote that he heard he was “expecting a surprise” from Jacksonville – and speculated that it might mean Walker would be the pick. Vegas certainly seems to agree.
