The Notebook

Every year thousands of guys get stuck trying to find out what to do and what to look for in gifts on Valentine’s Day. Alliance Home Video has come up with the perfect solution for the Valentine’s Day jitters with a new collection of five Valentine’s Day releases sold in separate packages: The Notebook, Dear John, The Time Traveler’s Wife, The Back-up Plan and Kate and Leopold.

All five films are special in their own way and have been favourites of women, girls, wives and daughters for their stories of love, devotion and their cute lead males. So what’s in these films for guys, other than hugs and kisses? Let’s take a look at them.

Based on the novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook stars Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams as a young couple who fall in love during the early 1940s. Their story is narrated from the present day by an elderly man played by James Garner, telling the tale to a fellow nursing home resident, played by Gena Rowlands.

The magic of The Notebook for women is in the true dedication and love of a husband who never gives up and stays by his wife until the very end. It’s the perfect example of what a chick flick should be. There isn’t much here for the tough guy, but the romantics will find it rewarding. There’s not a lot of action, violence and such, but it features the lovely Canadian actress Rachel McAdams, who also stars in the comedy Wedding Crashers. McAdams is irresistible Allie Hamilton, who becomes the lifelong love and passion of Noah Calhoun.

For the romantic guys, the relationship and love between Allie and Noah is one of life’s great treasures. It’s what every romantic, even the hopeless ones, want. From first meeting until death, the love never stops.
