The Backup Plan: Alliance Valentine’s Collection – DVD Review

The Backup Plan

Every year thousands of guys get stuck trying to find out what to do and what to look for in gifts on Valentine’s Day. Alliance Home Video has come up with the perfect solution for the Valentine’s Day jitters with a new collection of five Valentine’s Day releases sold in separate packages: The Notebook, Dear John, The Time Traveler’s Wife, The Back-up Plan and Kate and Leopold.

All five films are special in their own way and have been favourites of women, girls, wives and daughters for their stories of love, devotion and their cute lead males. So what’s in these films for guys, other than hugs and kisses? Let’s take a look at them.

Love or hate American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez, there’s no denying she’s an accomplished actress with high box office grosses and a sense of how to keep both men and women interested in her movies. Her latest movie, 2010’s Back-up Plan was selected for a Valentine’s Day release from Alliance and it was a great choice for both men and women.

The romantic comedy stars Lopez, Alex O’Loughlin and Melissa McCarthy. It’s a predictable plot, but Lopez makes it all the better. She plays Zoe, a woman who has a hard time letting anyone into her life and has a habit of pushing people away when they get close. She also wants to have a baby, but because she has no man in her life decides to be artificially inseminated. Shortly after having the procedure she meets a guy named Stan (O’Loughlin) whom she connects with, but she’s still afraid to let him in. When she tells him about her pregnancy thinking he would bail but he sticks with her, the comedy and the romance mix in an entertaining blend.

The Back-up Plan is not Lopez’s best film, but it is enjoyable, entertaining and worth a look at on Valentine’s Day.
