Vancouver radio station CFOX has been hosting the FOX SEEDS competition for over three decades – a contest where local bands showcase their talents in hopes of winning any up and coming artists dream. This year’s prizes included one radio single mixed by superstar engineer Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Metallica, Motley Crue), $5,000 in tour support funds, a $5,000 demo recording contract from Maple Music Recordings and much more. This year hundreds of bands entered, but only three survived.
This year’s three finalists were Victoria’s Black Hat Villain, Vancouver’s Stars of Boulevard and Vancouver’s Beyond the Fall. After riveting performances from each band, it was Stars of Boulevard which took home the title of 2010 FOX SEEDS Platinum Award Winner. A win like this is sure to jump start their career, just like it did for past SEEDS bands like Faber Drive, Nickelback and Default.
After the awards were presented, it was time for the special guests of the night The Arkells to take the stage. This Canadian rock band from Hamilton, Ontario kept the show going until the end of the night, with lively upbeat songs keeping the crowd energetic and wanting more.
And it just so happens that The Arkells are about to embark on a Canada wide tour opening Tokyo Police Club. So if you missed them this time around, they’ll be coming back again in October 2010. The band, which made headlines for a post 2010 MuchMusic Video Awards gig where pop star Ke$ha jumped on stage to freestyle through a cover of Ms. Jackson from OuKast. Arkells are about to embark on a Canada wide tour opening Tokyo Police Club, so if you missed them this time around, they’ll be coming back again in October 2010.
And one last congratulation for Stars of Boulevard on their big win!
