San Francisco 49ers Jimmy GaroppoloAgents are authorized to seek a trade that includes the veteran quarterback, sources told ESPN’s Adam Shifter.
A team source told Shifter that Garoppolo, who is recovering from off-season surgery on his shoulder, has been allowed to start training while the Niners prepare to start training camp next week.
The Niners are still expected to exercise caution this summer with Garoppolo, who underwent surgery in March – a procedure that delayed San Francisco’s efforts to trade it off.
Niners coach Kyle Shanahan admitted in May that Garoppolo was “likely to be traded” but then noted that the deal was “not a guarantee”.
Midfielder in the second year Tree Lance He worked as a rookie during the Offseason program in San Francisco while Garoppolo, who has been the Niners’ starter since the late 2017 season, spent most of his offseason rehab in Southern California. Garoppolo was released from the team’s mandatory junior camp in early June after not participating in the team’s off-season conditioning program.
Veterans are scheduled to report to Niners training camp on Tuesday.
Garoppolo, 30, is entering the final season of his contract and is set to count $26.95 million towards the 2022 salary cap. That deal included a no-trade clause for the 2021 season only, and the 49 players could substitute him for any team of their choosing.
The earning team will get a salary of $24.2 million if it trades for Garoppolo right now, but that salary is not guaranteed and interested teams can work with him on a contract extension that knocks out the salary figure in exchange for guarantees.
