(CNN) – Police in San Jose, California, responded to a shooting Wednesday near the city on Younger Avenue and San Pedro Street, according to a San Jose Police Department tweet.
“The shooter was killed,” the Santa Clara County Sheriff tweeted in a brief update. Authorities did not identify the suspect.
“There are many injuries and many deaths in this case,” Santa Clara County Deputy Sheriff Russell Davis told a news conference this morning.
San Jose Mayor Sam Licardo said Wednesday the attacker in a light traffic yard was “no longer a threat.”
“The shooting at the VDA facility on Younger Street has left many in critical condition, but the situation is still being assessed. The attacker is no longer a threat and the facility has been evacuated. I will update when more information becomes available,” the tweet said.
“Our hearts go out to the families of those who lost their lives in this horrific shooting. The shooter is dead, and information will be provided at 9:30 p.m.” Licardo said in another tweet.
