What do you think of when you hear the phrase Miss America? Well, it is not about a beauty pageant winner when you talk about the band Saving Abel. The band have performed USO Shows for the brave men and women serving in Kuwait and Iraq and their song Miss America is dedicated to the soldiers who fight for freedom.
While on the stage in Regina, Weeks pointed out that the Canadians were right there next to the American Troops, giving them a hand, and for that he thanked the Canadians.
On stage lead singer Jared Weeks takes it up a notch and holds your attention. Moving around on stage, he draws you in, tells you a story, and brings you into his world for a short time. I like this band because I understand them and where they are coming from. It is nice to be able to identify with music. “I have to Fake it” is a line from their very popular tune, “The Sex Is Good.” Often times, listening to Saving Abel’s lyrics, I have thought, ‘I wish I would have had the guts to say that!’
Jared does not over do anything while he is on stage. He is not flashy or dressed up in leather, but he does not need to be. His voice is clear, his actions are deliberate, and his aim is to make you a fan.  He succeeded in making many fans when they played in Regina.
I watched the crowd respect them as they played and each member pulls this band together to make it work like weave in a spider’s web.
The bass player Eric Taylor, is very serious about his playing.  I watched him become one with that guitar more than once, and with more than one guitar. Even his sweat had rhythm! Eric sings backup vocals as well. His face contorts with each long cord played! In fact, without missing a beat, he stepped to the front of the stage, looked me straight in the eye, and gave me the finger. Was it because I was taking photos and disturbing him? I know it was meant for me, but I am not sure if he was actually telling me to get out of his face, or if he was ‘posing’ for me. In that case, I missed the shot.  I felt special, either way!
These guys are already stars. The rest of the world just has to catch up and realize that now.
“I have to fake it, I’d leave if I could, I’m not in love but the sex is good….”
