Recent and news of the crisis between Ukraine and Russia

(Office of the President of Ukraine)

Following Russia’s recent move, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zhelensky addressed the nation early on Tuesday, saying “we do not owe anyone anything and we will not hand over anything to anyone.”

On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin called for “peacekeeping” troops in two pro-Moscow areas of eastern Ukraine after they recognized independence.

“We are on our soil, we are not afraid of anything, we are not indebted to anyone, we will not give anything to anyone. We firmly believe this, ”Zhelensky said in his video address. He said the move was a violation of Ukraine’s “unity and national sovereignty.”

Zhelensky added that despite Russia’s “statements and threats,” Ukraine’s international borders remain “intact.” He said Ukraine believed in the “clear and effective actions” of its international supporters.

He said Ukraine had begun emergency meetings with four countries, including Normandy, which includes Germany, Russia, Ukraine and France.

He warned that Putin’s latest move undermined the current “peaceful” negotiations and that “the Russian Federation will unilaterally withdraw from the Minsk agreement and ignore the Normandy agreement.”

Zhelensky reiterated that Ukraine wants “peace”, despite its “long-standing” readiness for Russian aggression.

To the Ukrainian citizens, he said that Ukraine will face the crisis peacefully and with confidence, and thanked the whole nation for the peaceful reaction to the latest developments. He assured the citizens that there was no reason for a “sleepless night”.
