This week’s power rankings not only reflect the Austrian Grand Prix, but the judges also take into account the drivers’ performance at Sprint. Here are the results for a few days full of excitement at the Red Bull Arena.

Leclerc was unable to meet the pace of Verstappen on Friday, the Ferrari driver who qualified for second place for Red Bull, nor on Saturday when Monaco had to fend off teammate Sainz’s challenge at the start of the match. You wait for the F1 point and then 12 come at once. Schumacher opened his account at Silverstone and is now doing well, having secured the stellar P6 finish at the Austrian Grand Prix. He entered Sunday’s bout, swinging from P5 and dropping to P14, passing four cars on the way back to P6, then swinging again to cement Haas’ biggest points since the 2018 Austrian Grand Prix. Schumacher also qualified seventh for Sprint, finishing ninth .
Verstappen appeared to be marching on the Red Bull Ring, where he finished first on Friday, finishing Sprint in P1 ahead of both Ferraris – although his tires started falling off towards the end to allow Leclerc to lock in – but Sunday wasn’t easily, The championship leader lost to Leclerc. He fought fairly and firmly but couldn’t hold off the Ferraris, and finished second in the Grand Prix with Sainz retired.
Ocon impressed the judges and it was clear he was on par with the Alps from the start, qualifying fifth for the sprint, finishing sixth in points on Saturday and then finishing fifth as the last driver on the first lap on Sunday. Perhaps it’s a performance that could easily be overlooked, given Schumacher took a P6 and Hamilton snatched last place on the podium – but the judges certainly took note of the weekend at Ocon.
Sainz managed to finish third on the grid at Sprint then He challenged his teammate Leclerc For P2 at the start of Saturday’s 100km dash, the Spaniard eventually lost and slipped off P3. Starting on Sunday, Sainz looked likely to fix Verstappen for P2 later in the race – then his hopes were dashed as Sainz was forced to retire, just as he was lining up a pass for the current champion. A DNF, but the judges acknowledged Sainz’s hard work.
What a roller coaster weekend for Alonso. He qualified eighth for the sprint but an electrical problem made him finally start for the Grand Prix. He was out long on his first assignment, fighting for P7 at the end of the race. But a failed stop that saw the two-time champion have to stop twice during the late safety trip meant Alonso was out on the points 10 laps before. He made four passes at the end to collect the last point in style.
With several great performances on Sunday, Hamilton finished seventh in the power ratings despite taking the podium in Austria. It’s possible that Friday’s Q3 crash didn’t help the score for the Mercedes driver, nor did the P8 stutter and falter at Sprint, but Hamilton turned the fuse in the Grand Prix and managed to finish well ahead of teammate Russell as well.
Magnussen hit the ground with P6 in qualifying, ahead of his teammate, and finished ahead of Schumacher with P7 (and points) at Sprint. But he was just out of the German driver on Sunday and finished eighth behind McLaren’s Lando Norris. Norris split the Haas drivers into eighth place and was ahead of Daniel Ricciardo throughout the Austrian Grand Prix. The Briton could only qualify for 15th on Friday, however, improving to P11 at Sprint. From there, Norris finished seventh with a productive final task, despite a five-second penalty for breaching track limits.
Fourth-placed Russell is out of the top ten in this week’s strength rankings, which mirror the Austrian weekend. The Mercedes driver dropped to 19th on Sunday after contacting Perez and challenged his five-second subsequent lane penalty. However, he made several passes on the track and recovered to P4 behind Hamilton. Besides Hamilton, Russell also crashed in qualifying, which is probably another reason why his scores are down this week.
Alex Albon was the driver to miss the top ten this week, with the Williams driver finishing 12th – and a score lower than Russell in the power ratings this week.
