Paul Rodgers Fans Break Out The Air Guitar In Vancouver

Words can’t describe how I feel about my Paul Rodgers’ experience. I had not seen Paul before at all. Not when he was with Bad Company, Free , The Firm or The Law. He also fronted Queen and has had a long solo career. It was my time to see him on his own fronting a group made up of all British Columbia residents. Paul himself is now a Canadian Citizen and has a residence here in BC for many years now. He could be described as hometown. It was an air guitar and audience sing-a-long party. Many songs from the classic Rock Song anthem song book of the 60’s and 70’s.

What a great show. Red Robinson introduced Paul and the show started with Can’t Get Enough. Bad Company and Free hits ruled the show with such Bad Co. knockouts as Bad Company, Honey Child, Little Bit of Love, Shooting Star and Rock and Roll Fantasy, as well as Free standbys Mister Big, All Right Now, Walk in My Shadow and a new song for a fundraiser- ‘With Our Love’. No hits from ‘The Firm’ were played tonight though.
Rodgers bandmates tonight were phenomenal bassist Todd Ronning (brother to ex Vancouver Canuck Cliff Ronning), guitarist Marcus Wolfe, guitarist/keyboardist Geraldo Dominelli and drummer Rick Fedyk sounded like a solid fit with the rock legend.
I have neverwitnessed an audience respond to an artist as I did tonight. His voice is still smooth as velvet after forty-five years of singing his songbook of iconic anthems. From the opening riff, every song was remembered (except the new one of course). There are many who have said he is the one , the true rock and rhythm and blues singer – from Brian May to Jimmy Page. I have to agree.
Paul is self taught in piano, guitar and harmonica, as well as tambourine and of course songwriting and singing. I am just glad I was able to go. I never knew what I had missed until now. On piano for Running With The Pack or on acoustic guitar for Seagull, Paul was powerful, receptive and yet warm and sensitive. When the audience was allowed to come to the stage, he actually went from right to left touching everyone’s hand.
The show this night was also a means to acquire some autographed swag through a draw. CARES, a favorite charity of Paul's wife Cynthia, was there to raise awareness and funding for their cause to save cats from being homeless. A Paul Rodgers autographed guitar, tour poster, a rare autographed Bad Company Vinyl record ( signed by the three remaining members) and Paul’s Muddy Waters CD were to be won by some lucky fans this night. Not me unfortunately. Paul said Cynthia had promised he match all funds raised by the draw. He confessed “ I have to get out my checkbook and write a big check” I had heard over $7000.00 was raised by the raffle. Well done!
Paul Rodgers’ shows are rare and if you get a chance like i did in this very intimate theatre, don’t pass it up.
