The Boston Celtics find themselves one win away from their 22nd NBA Finals appearance in franchise history. They defeated the Miami Heat in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals to advance 3-2. The series now travels to Boston on Friday night where the Celtics have the advantage of playing in front of their TD Garden fans as they try to banish the East seeded team. After the first half, the Heat and Celtics competed back and forth with Miami’s 48-46 win over Boston, thanks in part to great play by Jimmy Butler.
While it’s only a one-game lead for Boston, it has outlasted Miami in 15 of the 20 quarters this series has played. The Celtics prevailed in Game Five, 93-80, thanks to second-half dominance they torched 24-12 at the end of the third quarter. They are seeking their berth in the World Cup Finals for the first time since 2010 after going 0-4 in the Conference Finals since 2012. Meanwhile, The Heat have gone 5-0 in the ECF since 2011, but that streak is in great danger and they will have to find it. A way to keep their season alive without the services of Tyler Herro as he was once again ruled out with a thigh injury.
