Berlin, Germany would introduce us to a band that would not only have a group have flames around them during a concert, but even have fans who say that other bands play, but Rammstein Burns.
The lead singer (Till) has sung entire songs fully engulfed in flames and has received multiple burns on his ears, arms & hair – he is also a licensed pyro technician. Till and Flake's stage act also earned them a night in jail in June 1999 after a liquid-ejecting dildo was used in a concert in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Back home in Germany, the band has faced repeated accusations of fascist sympathies because of the dark and sometimes militaristic imagery of their videos and concerts. Rammstein released their cover of Stripped as a single, accompanied by a controversial music video, directed by Philipp Stölzl, which uses excerpts from Olympia, a Leni Riefenstahl documentary film covering the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin.
This album here is a "best of" from a band that mixes elements of metal and techno and makes it a good listen for fans.
Du Riechst So Gut is a song that isn’t too heavy that the techno fan won’t like it and the metal fan gets the rough growly voice and drums & guitars. I have enjoyed the variety of music from Rammstien since I first heard “Du Haust” back in ’95. Their music really breaks barriers as they sing mostly in German – and I don’t understand a word – but the music is good.”Ich Will” is another catchy song. It reminds me of the 80’s when one of my favorites was Nina Hagen, also from Germany – she had a hit with “New York, New York”.
Mein Herz Brennt starts with spoken words and slowly picks a beat, mixes with some orchestra music and becomes a strong song, almost like Led Zeppelin or Metallica S&M material (Symphony & Metallica) with the orchestra. Mutter sounds like it could be a bedtime song for a child. The tune uses the voice of a child at the start of the song, but then gets REAL heavy right after. It slows down once again and gets heavy during the chorus.
Pussy is a good song as well, but the lyrics might offend some. It is sung in English and sounds cool – real cool. “I can’t get laid in Germany” is one of the lines here.
Rosenrot, Haifisch, Amerika, Sonne, Ohne Dich, Mein Land close out the record and there are many collector versions of this album out now. This is a great album, making it really easy to review. I don’t think there is a song on here I don’t like.
Maybe you will enjoy it as much as I did……?
