A rusty barrel located near the site where the first human remains were found in Mead Lake.
Lake Mead is the largest reservoir in the United States whose size has dropped in recent years revealing something terrifying: the presence of human remains.
On May 1, authorities found the body of the murdered man inside a metal barrel.
Investigators said the body, found by boatmen on the lake, belonged to someone who was shot in the 1970s or 1980s.
Las Vegas Police Detective Ray Spencer told local media that models sold at well-known Kmart stores at the time were determined by the victim’s clothing and footwear.
Authorities are now examining the rusty metal of the barrel for further evidence.
“It’s going to be a very difficult thing,” Spencer told CBS News after the discovery. “I will say it We can see other human remains when the water level drops“, He added.
His words seem to have been pioneering.
The National Park Service, which patrols Lake Mead, announced last weekend that other human remains had been found.
The discovery was made by two sisters on Saturday, local media reported, initially thinking they had discovered a large rock.
“At first I thought it was a picorn goat, but then we started digging a little bit and when we found the jaw bone we realized it was human remains,” Lindsay Melvin told CBS.
“For a long time I did not believe it. I do not think we really found human remains,” said his sister, Lynette Melvin.
On Monday, Las Vegas police said so far This second discovery is not suspected of being a homicideBut they confirmed that the investigation would continue until it was determined whether it was a homicide or a suspicious death.
A balance in decline

Created in the 1930s, it provides drinking water to 20 million people living in areas ranging from Las Vegas to Los Angeles.
Its reserves have been declining since 2000 due to the severe drought that has plagued the region.According to scientists, it has worsened due to climate change.
Recent horrific discoveries have come as the lake has fallen back to its lowest level since it was first filled.
Last month, the water level of Mead Lake dropped to the point where it exposed the inlet valve that began supplying water to customers in the area in 1971.
In February, researchers concluded that drought in the southwestern United States was the worst in at least a millennium.
Not all droughts are caused by climate change, but too much heat in the atmosphere pulls too much moisture from the ground and worsens the drought.
